Ugandan oil officials paid a visit to the Nigerian oil facility in the Niger Delta Region. Their team seek to collaborate with Nigeria on oil and gas matters.
The team comprised of four senior officials of Uganda National oil Company (UNOC) who were led by officials of Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). They visited key oil facilities in Delta state including the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
The UNOC has reportedly entered agreements with major oil marketers with the aim of securing its fuel supply monopoly. The report made by The East African states the sale and purchase agreement between the parties involved were already signed. UNOC secured contracts with various fuel dealers in the market, tying over 80 oil marketers in Uganda to the state-owned corporation for the long term.
According to UNOC’s chief legal company secretary Peter Muliisa:
“The agreements with our clients, the OMCs (oil Marketing companies) have been completed and so what remains is delivering the vessel/products and the products hitting the fuel pumps.”
The intention of the UNOC points at establishing itself as the industry leader and sole provider of petroleum products into Uganda. Their visit to Nigeria as stated in their letter was to exchange ideas on the oil and gas sector which Nigeria has experience in.
The General Manager of NCDMB’s Midstream, Tassalla Tersugh who received the delegation said the board identifies the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) as an important stakeholder in oil and gas manpower development. The delegation explored the facilities before moving to Bayelsa.
