UAC Takes Over Chivita|Hollandia: Coca-Cola’s Major Deal in Nigeria’s Food, Beverage Sector

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has given its green light to Coca-Cola’s sale of Chivita|Hollandia (CHI Limited) to UAC of Nigeria PLC. The deal, which officially closed on October 3, 2025, marks a significant development in Nigeria’s thriving food and beverage industry.

The acquisition, which was first announced on July 30, sees UAC now assuming ownership of CHI Limited, a Nigerian producer known for its portfolio of dairy and juice brands. While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, it is clear that UAC, a holding company with a strong African market presence, is set to strengthen its position in the local and regional food and beverage sector.

“We are pleased to have received regulatory approval for this transaction,” said Eelco Weber, Managing Director of Chivita|Hollandia, in a statement. “We look forward to a smooth transition and to seeing Chivita|Hollandia thrive under UAC’s ownership.”

Coca-Cola, which initially acquired a 40% stake in CHI Limited back in 2016, later completed its full acquisition by purchasing the remaining shares in 2019. With this sale, UAC has now become the sole owner of the company, adding to its diverse portfolio of consumer brands.

Fola Aiyesimoju, UAC’s Group Managing Director, expressed excitement over the acquisition. “We are excited to officially welcome the Chivita|Hollandia team and brands into the UAC family,” Aiyesimoju said. “We are eager to work together to build on their strong legacy and market leadership.”

Founded in 1980, Chivita|Hollandia (CHI Limited) has become a household name in Nigeria, with a reputation for producing high-quality food and beverage products. The company has also played a significant role in supporting economic growth through its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, including its ISO 22000-certified plant.

This move by UAC is part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint in the food and beverage industry across Africa, where demand for local, high-quality products continues to rise. With a workforce of 5,000 employees and nine manufacturing facilities spread across Nigeria, UAC is well-positioned to integrate CHI Limited into its operations and drive further growth in the market.

Chivita|Hollandia is renowned for its brands, including Hollandia and Chivita, and remains one of Nigeria’s leading players in the dairy and juice segment. With UAC’s backing, the future looks bright for the company, as it continues to champion innovation and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
