Troops Foil Boko Haram Assault on Resettled Community, Neutralize Terrorist in Konduga

In a decisive counter-insurgency operation, troops of the Nigerian Army Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram terrorists targeting the recently resettled community of Delwa in Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State.

According to analyst and security expert Zagazola Makama said, the terrorists employed a multi-pronged strategy. They advanced on the community from three different flanks while simultaneously attempting to establish an ambush position along the critical Molai-Delwa road to target civilian motorists.Soldiers from the 7 Division Garrison responded with immediate and overwhelming force. Their rapid and robust engagement forced the attacking insurgents into a disorderly retreat, effectively thwarting the assault on the vulnerable community and securing the highway.

The swift military response yielded tangible results on the battlefield. Security sources confirmed that during the firefight, one terrorist was neutralized.

Furthermore, troops conducted a clearance operation in the aftermath, recovering crucial insurgent equipment. The cache included two 36mm hand grenades, three empty AK-47 rifle magazines, 31 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition, and two additional rounds of machine-gun ammunition. An intelligence assessment of the scene indicated that the terrorist group likely suffered further losses. Sources reported “traces of blood along the withdrawal route,” strongly suggesting that several other insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds, potentially leading to additional casualties. The military reported no casualties among its own troops or within the Delwa community.

This successful defense represents a significant victory for the ongoing Safe Corridor and resettlement initiatives in Northeast Nigeria. Delwa, like many communities, is part of a fragile effort to return internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes. Such attacks are deliberately designed to undermine public confidence in government-led resettlement programs.
