Nigeria’s star athlete and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, on Monday, secured silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Amusan raced to a time of 12.29 seconds, finishing behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold with a new national record.
Her performance marked Nigeria’s first medal at the championship and reaffirmed her status as one of the most consistent hurdlers in global athletics.
The bronze medal went to Grace Stark of the United States, who clocked 12.34 seconds, while her compatriot Masai Russell narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth in 12.44 seconds.
Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska and the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton both recorded season’s bests of 12.49 to share fifth place.
Jamaica’s Danielle Williams crossed the line seventh in 12.53, with the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser finishing eighth in 12.56.
Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022, has dominated the hurdles scene for three years and remains Nigeria’s brightest star on the track.
