Tinubu Declares State of Emergency on Security Training Facilities In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on the training facilities of Nigeria’s internal security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), following concerns over their deteriorating conditions.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) Ad-hoc Committee on the Overhaul of Security Training Institutions, and Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, during an on-the-spot assessment of facilities in Lagos on Monday.

Mbah, who was accompanied by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, the Secretary of the Committee and former Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba, and AIG Olatunji Disu, said the committee had been given 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to NEC for immediate action.

Mbah said, “Mr President is deeply concerned about the outdated and inadequate state of facilities being used to train the country’s security workforce.”

According to the Enugu governor, President Tinubu had raised the issue during the October 23 NEC meeting, noting that the current condition of training institutions was incompatible with his administration’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy within five years.

He said the inspection visits would cover training centres across the country to assess infrastructure, equipment, and curriculum needs, after which the committee would present recommendations for immediate rehabilitation and modernization.

The inspections and possible overhaul could be linked to the recent invasion threats by President Trump over the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
