The Supreme Court has dismissed the murder trial of former chief security officer Hamza Al-mustapha.
Mustapha was accused in the 1996 killing of kudirat Abiola, the wife of late Politician mko Abiola.
The Court ruled that the Lagos State Government, which brought the case, had lost interest and abandoned the appeal. a five-member panel, led by Justice Uwani Abaaji, stated that nine years was enough time for the state to file its appeal but it failed to do so.
The court also noted its displeasure that the state government sent no lawyers and provided no information for the hearing, despite being notified since 2020.
Kudirat Abiola was murdered during the Political crisis that followed the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which her husband was presumed to have won. she was a leading campaigner for the election result to be upheld.
