Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has officially parted ways with South African football club, Chippa United, after spending four years at the club. The announcement came on Thursday, with Chippa United confirming Nwabali’s request to leave despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. In a statement, the club expressed their understanding of his decision, honoring the request, and granted his release.
Chippa United’s statement reads in part: “Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release. We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
The 29-year-old goalkeeper, who made about 70 appearances for the club, arrived at Chippa United from Nigeria’s Katsina United in 2022, having made a significant impact in his time in South Africa’s Premier Division. His departure marks the end of a noteworthy chapter in his career at the club.
In response to his exit, Nwabali shared an emotional message via Instagram, where he expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for his time at Chippa United. In the video, Nwabali reflected on his journey, thanking his teammates, coaches, fans, and the club’s leadership for their unwavering support throughout the years.
His message read: “It was more than a family❤️. To my lovely teammates, dear coaches, amazing fans, and the best chairman in the world. As I stand here to say farewell, but more than a goodbye, I want to say thank you. The memories we’ve shared, the hard-fought victories, the setbacks we turned into lessons, the laughs and the tears are moments I will carry with me forever.”
“I leave with a heart full of gratitude and a lifetime of cherished memories. This isn’t just a farewell, it’s an appreciation for every moment you’ve given me. The lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me forever, and even though I may not wear the shirt anymore, a part of me will always remain with this club.”
Nwabali also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Chippa United’s chairman, whom he referred to as a father figure: “To the club chairman, thank you for being such a father figure to me ❤️.
