The Deputy Speaker of the house of Representative of Nigeria, Benjamin Okezie Kalu has appreciated the president of Nigeria, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, for signing the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law and approving the creation of the commission.
The bill was sponsored by Kalu and supported by the lawmakers from the southeast region in the house.
The bill seeks to establish a commission that will be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage fund from allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war after 54 years.
The commission will as well tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the Southeast States including Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi.
The Deputy Speaker (APC) profusely thanked the president after the statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu for the adoption of the bill. He also extended his appreciation to his colleagues in the national assembly and all Nigerians.
He then conveyed the appreciation of all Ndi Igbo from the Southeast region to the bill and assured them of more positive attention from the President.
The already established northeast development commission handles development in that region after the insurgency that occurred. The Southeast development commission comes in years after the civil war destruction ravaged the region.
