An unfortunate incident was recorded in Sokoto State after a tragic fire incident claimed the lives of four family members of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Muhammadu Bello Sifawa.
Caught in the inflammation was Sifawa’s daughter, and her three children.
The fire engulfed their residence in the early hours of Monday while the family was asleep. The entire house had reportedly been consumed before emergency responders could extinguish the flames.
The sole survivor of the family is Muhammadu Yusuf Bello, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, who was reportedly absent when the fire broke out.
The Sokoto State Fire Service worked tirelessly for hours to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The remains of the deceased have been slated for burial at the Sheikh Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo Mosque in Sifawa. The burial will take place at midnight at the family home of the SSG, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Sifawa.
The tragic incident has drawn an outpouring of grief and condolences from across the state. Deputy Governor Engr. Idris Mohammed Gobir, members of the state executive council, All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts, friends, and well-wishers have all trooped to Sifawa to pay their respects and offer support to the grieving family.
While condolences are sought, it has become imperative to find lasting solutions to fire outbreaks that have become frequent in Nigeria in the past months.
