The Senate on Thursday ratified the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu earlier in the week.
Lawmakers reached the decision during a closed-door session, where they discussed the proclamation and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and other elected officials.
The session was convened after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s letter on the matter during plenary.
Following the reading, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for a closed session in line with Order 135 of the Senate rules. The motion was seconded by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.
