Security Forces Neutralize three suspected militants in Nnewi Clash

A joint security operation in Anambra State led to the elimination of three suspected militants affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) wing early Friday morning.

According to a security briefing, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. along the Nnewi–Oba Road. A patrol team, enforcing a ban on the illegal sit-at-home order, encountered armed individuals blockading the roadway near the Akaboukwu area of Uruagu, Nnewi.

Sources report that the suspects opened fire on the approaching security operatives, which included police officers and local vigilantes. The attack precipitated a gun battle, forcing the militants to retreat into nearby bushes.

During the engagement, three of the assailants were neutralized. It is believed that other members of the group escaped with gunshot wounds, taking their firearms with them.

The bodies of the three deceased suspects were recovered from the scene. Security personnel noted the individuals were adorned with various native charms on their waists, hands, and necks. The remains were evacuated, pronounced dead by medical personnel, and transferred to a morgue for autopsy.

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing counter-terrorism and crime prevention operations. The command stated these efforts are critical to ensuring public safety and preventing the enforcement of unlawful orders within the state.
