HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has been reinstated as the 14th Emir of Kano state.
This announcement followed the Kano state House of Assembly’s decision to nullify the Emirate council law, resulting in the removal of all positions created under the previous law as outlined in the new legislation.
The decision dethrones the current Emir and dismantles the four new Emirates in the state established by the previous law.
The law was first amended in 2019 during the rift between then-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the deposed Emir.
The first amendment had broken the Kano emirate into five different emirates with the creation of Rano, Karaye, Gaya, and Bichi Emirates, and the appointment of First Class Emirs for the new emirates, eventually culminating in the deposition of Sanusi Lamido as the Emir of Kano.
All positions created by the previous law are no longer valid according to the new legislation. Additionally, all district leaders promoted or assigned under the previous law are required to return to their former roles.
