The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA) on Sunday declared participation in the nationwide protest as unwise.
Though they accept that all regions in Nigeria are experiencing hunger and harsh economic realities, participating in a protest that might be hijacked by enemies of Nigeria would cause a crisis and jeopardise the healing process in the land.
The Chairman of the Association and Vision Pioneer, Throneroom Trust Ministry Kafanchan, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, urged the youths not to participate in the planned nationwide protest, but to allow the land to heal after numerous attacks in the past.
Kure made the call in an interview after a special Thanksgiving Service for elected and appointed officers from Southern Kaduna by the Association in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria, Southern Kaduna Zone held in Kafanchan.
Apostle Kure appealed to the people to give the government more time to fix the decay caused by past administrations, “especially now that the current government at the Federal and State levels have started giving the people of Southern Kaduna hope and inclusivity in appointment and project execution.”
Similarly, Kaduna State governor Uba Sani and the Emir and Zazzau, Amb. Nuhu Bamali have united in rejecting calls for protests during a Town hall meeting convened by the Governor. Together with other stakeholders at the event, the leaders spoke with one voice against mass action, citing past experiences where protests led to chaos and destruction.
Governor Sani commended the President Tinubu’s efforts to address the challenges while acknowledging the hardship being faced in the country. Just like the FCT minister, he declared that no group has applied to organise a protest in the state.
He urged the citizens to support the president’s effort in revamping the economy.
The Kaduna state government and Southern Kaduna Christian leaders are not the only bodies that have shunned against and withdrawn from the nationwide protest. Many organisations have declared their nonparticipation and withdrawal from the protest in the country. While protest is a right of every citizen, it is perplexing as to why many bodies do not wish to claim ownership or participation in the protest. Are there hidden powers playing in the background?
