President Tinubu Commits to Honoring Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine, Commemorating Their 1995 Sacrifice

President Bola Tinubu has honored activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and the eight other Ogoni martyrs, affirming that his government will address their historical grievances.

The president said this in a special message to commemorate the 2024 Ogoni Martyrs Remembrance Day, Bayo Onanuga, his spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

He emphasized his government’s dedication to promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and healing across all ethnic groups in Nigeria.

We honour their memory by recognising the sacrifices made and pledging to strive for a future characterised by peace, justice, and sustainable development for all communities, particularly those in the Niger Delta.

As we remember the Ogoni Martyrs, let us honour their legacy by committing to a future where such injustices are no longer tolerated and where the voices of all Nigerians are heard and respected,

This vision would be realised through constructive engagement and mutual respect.”

This year’s commemoration of the Ogoni Martyrs Remembrance Day is themed: ‘After Price, Comes Prize.
