President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of seven Nigerians to lead key agencies and initiatives within the Federal Ministry of humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday night by the Presidential Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale. He said the appointments were done to ensure the required relief reached Nigerians and to ensure effectiveness of social and humanitarian programmes.
According to the statement, Dr Badamasi Lawal is appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). Dr Lawal holds a doctorate degree in education, and he previously served as a commissioner in Katsina state.
Ms Funmilola Olotu will serve as the programme manager, National Social Safety-net coordinating office. She holds a master’s degree in business administration, and is the senior special assistant to the Governor of Lagos state on state lotteries.
Ms Aishat Alubankudi is the new programme manager, grant for Vulnerable groups. She holds a bachelor’s degree in community development. She also has experience as a risk assessor and financial manager.
Princess Aderemi Adebowale was appointed as the Programme Manager, Home Grown School Feeding. She holds a doctorate degree. She is also the special Adviser to the governor of Lagos state on civic Engagement and previously served as a local government chairperson.
Mr Abdullahi Alhassan Iman is the new programme Manager, national Cash transfer office. Mr Imam holds a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and has served as chief accountant, Northern Dairies Ltd, and as a bank manager.
Mr Ayuba Gufwan will serve as the Executive Secretary, National Commission for people with disabilities. Mr Gufwan holds an LLB and is the executive director of the Beautiful gate Handicapped people centre, Jos.
Ms. Lami Binta Adamu Bello is the new Director General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. Ms. Binta holds a master’s degree in public administration and has served as the Secretary-General of ALGON, and Permanent Secretary, Federal ministry of Health, as well as Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Ngelale concluded in the statement that the president expects the new heads to discharge the functions of their agencies with utmost diligence and integrity while ensuring that Nigerians, especially vulnerable groups are direct beneficiaries of the programmes.
The new appointments come when Nigerians are protesting the high government cost, food inflation and insecurity. While some Nigerians are forced to remain at home due to movement restrictions, others celebrate their new appointments.
