Oluyede Wins PDP Governorship Ticket in Ekiti, Vows to End APC Rule

Medical doctor and politician Dr. Wole Oluyede has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Ekiti State ahead of the June 20, 2026 election.

Oluyede polled 279 votes to defeat Funso Ayeni, who scored 239, and Funmilayo Ogun, who got 17 votes, in a primary election held in Ado-Ekiti that stretched into the early hours of Sunday.

Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Senator Ibrahim Dankwabo, praised delegates and aspirants for what he called “an orderly and transparent process that reflects the unity of the PDP family.”

Reacting to the outcome, the PDP South-West Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, described Oluyede’s victory as “a clear signal that Ekiti people are ready to end years of hardship under the APC.”

He said, “Our primary has again shown that the PDP remains the only party capable of giving Ekiti a credible alternative. Dr. Oluyede’s emergence marks the beginning of a new political era in the state.”

But the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the claim. Its spokesperson, Segun Dipe, said, “This is not the first time Oluyede will contest. He comes around every four years on a different platform, and he will lose again in 2026.”

Governor Biodun Oyebanji had earlier been confirmed as the APC candidate through a consensus arrangement on October 27.
