The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that Corps Members will begin receiving a new monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in February 2025. This increase from the previous N33,000 was revealed during his address to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 corps members in Katsina on Thursday.
Brigadier General Ahmed explained that the N77,000 allowance was included in the 2025 Federal Government budget, which has now been approved. He reassured the Corps Members that they will start receiving the enhanced allowance next month, despite the month of January already being over.
“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” said the DG.
He went on to urge the Corps Members to reciprocate the Federal Government’s generous gesture by giving their best during their service year.
In addition to the financial uplift, the Director General highlighted his ongoing commitment to the welfare and safety of Corps Members across Nigeria. He reassured the batch of new Corps Members that the NYSC will not send them to areas with security threats.
“We will not send our Corps Members to wherever we have challenges of security threats,” said Brigadier General Ahmed. “Wherever we send them, they should be less assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve.”
The increase in allowance and the emphasis on safety mark a significant step in the Federal Government’s support for the NYSC scheme and the well-being of youth corps members as they contribute to national development.
