The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has issued a strong condemnation of a series of brutal attacks across Kwara, Katsina, and Benue states, calling the violence a “direct assault on the collective conscience of the nation.”
In a forceful statement, the 19-member forum, chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, described the recent killings as “barbaric and senseless,” demanding swift and decisive action to end the relentless targeting of defenseless civilians.
The statement comes in the wake of a wave of coordinated violence in recent days that has left dozens dead, many abducted, and millions of naira worth of property destroyed.
One of the most devastating incidents took place in Kwara State, where armed assailants targeted the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area. Preliminary reports suggest over 50 fatalities, with numerous homes destroyed. Local sources report a chilling scenario where the attackers, initially posing as preachers urging residents to reject the Nigerian Constitution, turned their weapons on the villagers when met with resistance.
While commending the governors of the affected states for their “resilience,” Governor Yahaya emphasized the forum’s commitment to working closely with federal security agencies and local stakeholders. He stressed that the forum’s focus would be on enhancing intelligence-driven community policing and pursuing long-term socio-economic solutions to address the region’s security challenges.
The forum also extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, praying for the souls of those lost in what it condemned as “cold-blooded” murders.
The escalating violence highlights the ongoing security crisis in northern Nigeria, with communities increasingly trapped in the crossfire of armed militancy and banditry.
