NNPP CLEARS ALL 44 LG POSITIONS IN KANO, KANSAIC ISSUES CERTIFICATES OF RETURN

The Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission KANSAIC, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi has announced the results of the Saturday LG elections in Kano State. He said six political parties, including AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP, participated,  but the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, won all the 44 local government chairmanship and 484 councilors positions.

Issuing the certificates to winners of the election on Sunday morning, Malumfashi added that the election was smooth and orderly across all LGAs in the state.

They are now charged with the responsibilities of attending to the official needs of their respective LGAs.”

On his part, Rabi’u Bichi, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, has described the LG election as “illegal”.

“The party’s stance is informed by a court order by  Justice Simon Amobede of the Federal High Court, Kano, which still stands, and which has rendered the election null and void,” he said.

“The judge ruled that the leadership of KANSIEC was partisan and biased towards the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state. Since the judgment has not been appealed, the APC considers any outcome of the election illegal.”

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, yesterday, swore in the newly elected 44 local government chairmen in the state.
The oath of office was administered on them by the Attorney-General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, at the Africa House, Government House, in the presence of Yusuf and hundreds of party supporters.

There are varying reports on the conduct of the LG elections, there was high voter turn out in some communities,  other reports stated low voter turn out. However, CSOs, under Victor Kalu and Magret Anih, presented their election report to the KANSEIC, and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election.
They commended the peaceful conduct of the election despite the absence of the conventional security agencies at polling centers.
