Following the absence of the Nigerian Labour Congress president, Comrade Joe Ajaero and the NLC Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, during the last summoning by the Nigerian police, the second interrogation has been rescheduled for September 25.
According to a report by The Punch, both leaders did not appear at the Force headquarters on the 5th of September as was earlier stated.
The Punch reports that a source familiar with the situation said the NLC leaders had written to the investigators that they wouldn’t be available that Thursday, but should be expected on September 25th.
The counsel for the NLC, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) is reported to have written to the police requesting for another date as Comrade Ajaero had an engagement outside Abuja.
Ajaero has been summoned over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony. An invitation which came after a night raid at the NLC national secretariat in Abuja.
The police are also alleging a link between the labour President and a Briton, Andrew Wynne, who has been accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance or #Hunger protest in the country to allegedly overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.
Following Ajaero’s first appearance on August 29th, the Police had written a letter asking him to appear together with his secretary on September 5th to answer “questions over alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to property”.
The letter was signed by the Commissioner of Police, Operations, Ibitoye Alajide, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police.
The Nigerian Labour Congress had planned a mass protest following the summoning of their leader recently.
