NIGERIA RECORDS INCREASE IN CASES OF MPOX CONFIRMS 48 CASES ACROSS 20 STATES INCLUDING FCT

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed eight new cases of Mpox, bringing the total to 48 out of 868 suspected cases across 35 local government areas in 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

No Mpox- related death has been recorded anywhere in Nigeria yet, according the Nigeria Centre for Disease and Control (NCDC).
In the Mpox situation report for week 34 (August 25), posted on the NCDC’s official X handle, revealed that the 8 confirmed cases were distributed as follows: Enugu (4), Bayelsa (1), Cross River (1), Edo (1), and Osun (1).

The breakdown of the report reveals that 17 cases were recorded among children aged zero-10, seven cases among adolescents aged 11-20, nine cases among young adults aged 21-30, eight cases among adults aged 31-40, and seven cases among middle-aged individuals aged 41-50.

The confirmed Mpox cases were reported from the FCT and 20 states: Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, Delta, Imo, Edo, Anambra, Cross River, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa, Oyo, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, Osun, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

The NCDC pledged commitment to continue coordinating the response through the National Mpox multi-sectoral and multi-partner Emergency Operation Center (EOC).
