Armed bandits have abducted at least 10 people from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, police confirmed on Thursday.
The attack happened Wednesday night around 8 pm, according to the Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun.
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8 pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims,” Abiodun said.
In a separate incident the same day in Kakuru community, Erena Ward, bandits reportedly chopped off the right hand of a blind man after seizing his mobile phone. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a local clinic.
These attacks come barely 24 hours after another gang abducted 24 farmers, including pregnant women, from a rice farm in Palaita, also in Erena Ward.
The renewed onslaught in Shiroro and surrounding areas has heightened fear among residents, many of whom have abandoned their homes and farms.
Just last week, over 300 students and 12 teachers were kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, in one of the largest school abductions recorded in recent times.
Niger State remains one of the worst-hit by banditry, with communities in Shiroro, Rafi, Munya and Agwara local government areas bearing the heaviest burden.
