New Commissioner Of Police of the FCT Peter Opara replaces promoted CP Benneth Igwe

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has a new Commissioner of Police, following the appointment of Peter Opara by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

According to the PSC’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani on Saturday, Opara replaces CP Benneth Igwe who  has since been promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, and posted to Zone 7 Abuja as the Zonal Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Prior to his new appointment, Opara served as the Commissioner of Police at the Force Secretary’s Office. He has also held key positions including Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance for the Imo State Command, and Personal Assistant to the former Chairman of the PSC, retired Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro.

He also served as the Senior Deputy Defence Adviser at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, and as DCP at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano.

The PSC also approved a change of leadership in Akwa Ibom State, with Festus Eribo replacing Miller Gagere Dantawaye as the Commissioner of Police.

The commission had earlier approved the posting of four Commissioners of Police which included that of Abia, Lagos and Ebonyi states.
