Netizens React to Senate President Akpabio’s Denial of Sexual Harassment Allegation by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed the sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against him during a plenary session on Wednesday. In his statement, Akpabio firmly denied the accusations, asserting that he has never harassed Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman.

Akpabio, emphasizing his respect for women, explained that he was raised by his late single mother, who he credits with instilling strong values in him. He also highlighted that he has four daughters, reinforcing his claim that he would never engage in such behavior.

“I want to make it clear that at no time have I attempted to sexually harass the distinguished Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman,” Akpabio stated. “My siblings and I were raised very well by our late mother, who passed away in 2000 after enduring many challenges. I hold the highest regard for women and would never behave in such a manner. I have never done so.”

His response quickly garnered attention across social media, with users offering diverse reactions to the unfolding situation.

On X (formerly Twitter), @IK_Balarabe tweeted, “Let investigation decide that,”

Meanwhile, @YDansabe expressed skepticism, asking, “Oga, what of this woman?”

@yung10023 summed up the situation by tweeting, “This case is getting out of hand,”

On YouTube, @Omoshowo called for Akpabio to step down for a proper investigation, stating, “He can’t be a judge in his own matter.”

@paulojeba offered a more prayerful response, writing, “Amen to his prayers that Almighty God will step in and vindicate the just.”

@tosinopatola4083 took a different approach, commenting, “The only problem we have in Nigeria is being biased. We easily conclude on allegations without being proven. I believe God will step in and vindicate the just among the two senators.”

The Senate President however urged the media and members of the social media to await the court’s decision and not jump to conclusions on matters of mere allegations.
