Organized Labor has again rejected the newly proposed N54,000 by the Federal Government saying it is a far cry from the N615,000 proposed by the NLC and the TUC. The figure was proposed yesterday at the ongoing tripartite negotiation comprising the Federal Government, Labor and the Organized Private Sector.
The NLC President while speaking on Channels television described as “unsubstantial”, the fresh proposal by the government.
He said, “The economy of the workers is totally destroyed. In fact, the workers doesn’t have any economy. I think there are two economies in the country; the economy of the bourgeoisie and the economy of the workers. I think we have to harmonise this so that we can have a meeting point.”
Labour leaders decried the absence of state governors in the meeting to present their offers, as their representatives said they had no mandate.
A member of the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, confirmed the absence of six governors who represent the six geopolitical zones, no agreement was reached without the governors.
Negotiations were adjourned to today to hear from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) what it intends to propose.
