A dramatic incident unfolded at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin, Kwara State, when Segun Martins, a suspected stowaway, was caught clinging to the tyres of an aircraft just before takeoff. According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Martins attempted to escape to the United States by hiding in the undercarriage of an Overland aircraft, which was preparing for departure.
The authorities reported that at approximately 3:02 PM, Martins gained unauthorized access to the foot of the aircraft, trying to conceal himself between the tyres. His actions were quickly noticed by airport ground security, who swiftly apprehended him. The incident was confirmed by NCAA spokesperson, Mr. Michael Achimugu, who detailed the events on social media platform X, stating, “At approximately 1502 hours, a male, identified as Segun Martins, gained unauthorized access to the foot of an Overland aircraft that was about to taxi for takeoff and attempted to conceal himself between the aircraft tyres.”
Martins was immediately handed over to the airport police for further investigation. According to Achimugu, the suspect revealed that he had believed the aircraft was bound for the United States and intended to escape by stowing away on the flight.
