Liverpool forward and Portuguese star football player, Diogo Jota, has reportedly died in a car accident, together with his brother according to Spanish publication, Marca.
Diogo Jota, who has been enjoying his break in Spain after helping Liverpool to win the 2024-2025 Premier League title, reportedly lost his life in the early hours of today, July 3.
The ghastly car accident reportedly happened at kilometre 65 of the A-52 highway, near the town of Palacios de Sanabria in the province of Zamora.
Jota, 28, was travelling with his younger brother, André, a 26-year-old also involved in professional football, when their car veered off the road and erupted into flames.
According to reports, the vehicle caught fire upon impact, and the flames quickly spread to the surrounding vegetation, making rescue efforts difficult.
According to Marca, emergency services were alerted by eyewitnesses who described the scene as horrific.
Despite the swift response of emergency teams, Diogo Jota succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The condition of his brother André has not yet been officially confirmed.
Even saddening is the knowledge that Jota had just tied the knot just ten days ago to his longtime love, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three beautiful children.Diogo Jota was born on December 4, 1996, in Massarelos, Portugal, as Diogo José Teixeira da Silva.

He started developing his football skills at a local Portuguese club, Paços de Ferreira, before he went on loan at FC Porto, and then briefly played for Atlético Madrid.
But it wasn’t until he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers that the world noticed him before he made a career-defining move to Liverpool in 2020.
He cost Liverpool around £41 million, a deal many thought was a gamble. However, the forward delivered quietly, steadily, and brilliantly. In just 182 appearances, the 28-year-old Portuguese star scored 65 goals in all competitions.
Before his untimely demise, Diogo Jota helped Liverpool win the Premier League (2024/25), the FA Cup (2022), and two Carabao Cups (2022 & 2024).
The devastating news has cast a sombre mood as both football stars’ demise is a loss not just for Liverpool, not just for Portugal, but for the world of sport and beyond.
