Lagos Government Launches Enforcement of E-Call-Up System in Lekki Free Trade Zone

The Lagos State government has announced the launch of the newly implemented e-call-up system in the Lekki Free Trade Zone to better manage the growing influx of trucks in the area.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, who revealed this to newsmen, emphasised that the initiative is crucial in preventing chaotic traffic conditions and indiscriminate parking, thereby preserving real estate value and ensuring smooth operations along the Ibeju-Lekki axis.

Giwa had led a team from the Ministry of Transportation, including the Senior Special Assistant on Transportation Logistics, Prince Hassan Adekoya, for the last three days to engage key stakeholders such as Pinnacle, Dangote, Lagos Free Zone, Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Port, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The discussions focused on deploying the technology and ensuring that all parties align with its practical use.

The e-call-up system, an advanced digital platform, is designed to regulate truck entry and exit in the Lekki-Epe area by scheduling and coordinating their movements. This will help prevent the frequent traffic chaos caused by indiscriminate parking and the movement of trucks within the corridor.

The Lekki-Epe corridor, a vital economic hub in Lagos, hosts several key industries, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, and Lekki Deep Sea Port.

Hon. Giwa, speaking further said: “This initiative is a significant step toward sustainable development in the region, ensuring that the Ibeju-Lekki axis remains conducive for commerce and real estate investment.’’

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant on Transportation Logistics, Prince Hassan Adekoya said:  “The Lagos State government is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where all stakeholders are actively involved in implementing the e-call-up system. We aim to ensure that as we enforce this system, we fully resume efforts to maintain decency and smooth operations around the Lekki Free Trade Zone.”

The e-call up system is particularly important as Dangote Refinery, located in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, has began fuel distribution, a development that significantly increased the number of trucks moving through the area.
