Kwankwaso Condemns Governor Abba Kabir for Alleged Coercion of Kano Executives into APC Defection

A significant political rift has emerged within the Kano political landscape following reports of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move has sparked open discord with the Kwankwasiyya movement, the political structure led by its founder and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a radio interview aired on Tuesday, Senator Kwankwaso launched a pointed critique against the sitting governor. He explicitly accused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of applying undue pressure on appointed executives and key supporters within the Kano State government to follow him into the APC.

Kwankwaso framed this alleged coercion as a direct affront to the principles and autonomy of the Kwankwasiyya movement, suggesting the governor is attempting to forcibly merge its structure with the rival “Gandujiyya” faction, a term referencing the political camp of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. This confrontation marks a critical and public deterioration in the relationship between the governor and the political mentor whose backing was instrumental to his election.
