Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has vowed to personally sign the death warrants of anyone convicted for the murder of a woman and her six children. He made the announcement on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the bereaved family in Chiranci Dorayi.
Governor Yusuf directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to expedite the prosecution of suspects already in custody, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice as a deterrent to violent crime.
“I assure the people of Kano that once the courts convict those responsible, I will not hesitate to sign their death warrants,” he said He added that this firm stance would also apply to other high-profile cases in the state, including the killing of Hanifa and the Gezawa arson incident, once judicial processes are concluded.
Beyond justice, the governor announced a welfare package for the bereaved husband and father, which includes sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, provision of a new house, and ongoing welfare assistance. He also pledged state support should the man choose to remarry in the future.Governor Yusuf commended the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their prompt response, which led to the quick arrest of suspects.
In a gesture of gratitude, the bereaved father donated his personal house to the Kano State Government, requesting that it be used to build an Islamiyya school for the local community.
The governor concluded by praying for the souls of the deceased and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as the judicial process continues.
