KANO COURT ORDERS TIKTOKERS TO MARRY IN 60 DAYS AFTER VIRAL VIDEOS DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to formalise their relationship through marriage within 60 days.

The order, issued on Monday by Magistrate Halima Wali, followed a series of viral clips showing the duo in romantic displays deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.

The court also directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to oversee the marriage process, warning that failure to comply within the stipulated time would amount to contempt of court.

The ruling came weeks after the influencers were arraigned for allegedly producing and distributing obscene content online.

Officials of the Censorship Board said the videos violated the state’s censorship laws, which prohibit sexually suggestive or explicit material.

Mai Wushirya was previously remanded in a correctional facility over similar allegations, while Yar Guda was interrogated by the board before the case moved to court.

The unusual directive has divided opinion among residents and netizens.

While some have welcomed the directive as it upholds the cultural and religious values of the people of Kano, others have seen it as an overreach of authority and asked for other penalties instead of forced marriage.

Neither Mai Wushirya nor Yar Guda has publicly responded to the marriage order as at the time of filing this report.
