JUSTICE SERVED AS SENATE SACKS CCT CHAIRMAN OVER ASSAULT OF SECURITY GUARD

The Senate has sacked the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Yakubu Umar on Wednesday over allegations of misconduct.

The Senate invoked section 157 (1), with 82 senators constituting the two-thurds majority of the senate agreeing to his removal.

The resolution has been forwarded to President Bola Tinubu for further action.

Umar’s removal gives way to the official resumption of Abdullahi Bello as the new substantive Chairman of the Tribunal.

Umar had allegedly assaulted a security guard at Banex Plaza in Abuja.

The victim, Clement Sargwak, had complained to the senate that he was assaulted by the CCT Chairman and a policeman attached to him in March 2021 at the popular Banex plaza Abuja where he worked as a security guard.

According to Sargwak, the CCT boss assaulted him while undergoing his lawful activities after he informed him that his car was wrongly parked.

The victim, therefore, asked the Senate to ensure justice is done in his case.

The Senate had conducted investigations and came to the conclusion that Umar was guilty of the Accusations, thus his removal.
