JUST IN: LATE COAS LAID TO REST IN ABUJA

The late Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja was finally laid to rest in Abuja on Friday, after a two day funeral rites event.

The burial took place at the National Cemetery in the nation’s capital.

Born on February 28, 1968, Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months. President Tinubu appointed him to the role in June 2023.

He played pivotal roles in numerous internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.

He was also conferred a post-humous honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Tinubu.

Tears and tributes flowed freely as the casket draped in the green and white flag of Nigeria arrived at the cemetery, and he was subsequently lowered into his final home at 4:41 pm.
