The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a memo threatening to sanction higher institutions that fail to submit lists of students admitted immediately after matriculation.
JAMB’s public complaints commission advisor, Fabian Benjamin revealed in the memo ‘clarification on disclosure of admitted candidates outside CAPS (2017 -date)’ that the initiative was done by the Federal Government to combat fake degree racketeering in the country.
The memo as reported by Channels Television states that institution are to regularly submit their matriculation lists to the federal ministry of education not later than 3 months after matriculation ceremonies through the dedicated channel of JAMB.
JAMB also advised that candidates are not to accept admissions outside CAPS. Also, candidates not disclosed by institutions would not be entertained.
Following the exposure of certificate racketeering and activities of fake degree mills in Benin Republic by the Daily Nigerian, the Federal Government set upon inter-ministerial investigative committee on degree certificate milling.
The NYSC had earlier revealed that 54 corp members illegally mobilised by the university of Calabar had been demobilised. This in addition to the earlier 101 certificates recently voided by the scheme makes it a total of 178.
