The kidnapped District head of Gatawa in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Muhammad Bawa, has died while in captivity as reported by Channels News.
According to the report, the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni North in the state House of Assembly, Almustapha Boza, confirmed the tragic news.
Boza said the team sent to deliver the ransom demanded by the bandits met the monarch’s corpse. The district head was buried soon after while his son returned with the team.
Isa Muhammad was abducted alongside his son and brother 25 days ago in July. His abductors demanded 60 million naira and brand new motorbikes popularly called Boko Haram.
In another disturbing news, Gunmen reportedly killed 13 farmers on their farms in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro LGA in Niger state on Wednesday.
According to a statement by the Deputy Governor of Niger state, Yakubu Garba, he described the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious and callous”. He also complained about how disturbing and appalling it is to see people perpetrate such “barbaric and vicious act” against fellow humans.
He then expressed condolences to the grieving families, residents, and the entire Shiroro community. He added that the state government remains resolute in its quest to restore peace and security across Niger.
He asked security agencies to remain steadfast and undeterred in their efforts, promising them full support in their battle against criminal elements.
The Nigerian Army had previously announced the deployment of troops to farms in several northern states to curb violent attacks on farmers and ensure safety. Yet attacks on farmers have been recorded.
Continuous killing of farmers will further worsen food inflation.
