The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has put forward a proposal to exempt the personal income of military personnel from taxes in Nigeria.
Abiodun Faleke, the committee’s chairman, revealed the proposal during the clause-by-clause consideration of four tax bills presented to the parliament by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.
Faleke emphasized the importance of this measure, stating, “Mr Speaker, honourable colleagues, the committee proposed that the personal income of military personnel should be exempted from tax due to the critical nature of their assignment.”
The proposal received unanimous support from the committee members.
