Pandemonium broke out in Abuja on Wednesday after soldiers allegedly following the directives of an army general assaulted development control officials reportedly acting under the orders of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The officials were present to dismantle certain illegal structures in the vicinity including the fence of a property located on Plot 416, reportedly owned by a Major General.
However, upon their arrival, soldiers, who were in a vehicle with obscured license plates, obstructed the exit from the property, thereby preventing the enforcement team from leaving the premises, while issuing threats that someone would die that day.
Gunshots were reportedly fired as the soldiers made efforts to scare the development officials.
Some development officials were reportedly harassed, beaten up and taken away by the Army personnel and three Hilux vehicles were reportedly taken to the Major General’s house while the remaining vehicles that they could not lay hands on had their tyres flattened with gunshots.
