Pep Guardiola has announced his intention to remain at Manchester City after winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title and sixth in seven years on Sunday.
Phil Foden’s two goals helped City secure a 3-1 victory over West Ham at the Etihad, edging out Arsenal by two points and denying the Gunners their first league title in 20 years.
Reflecting on his success, Guardiola said, “When I moved here if someone had said I would win six leagues in seven seasons I would say you’re insane – no way. All these players for Manchester United and Liverpool and Chelsea, all these teams. Now is our period. We are part of that.”
The 53-year-old manager has won 15 major trophies in eight seasons with Manchester City and could add another with the upcoming FA Cup final. Despite being closer to the end of his tenure, Guardiola, who has a contract until 2025, expressed his intention to stay at least one more year.
“The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying after eight years. We have talked with the club — my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk,” he said.
