Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has issued an emergency directive ordering the closure of all public and private schools across the state, effective Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The decision comes in response to ongoing and unresolved security threats that have raised concerns about the safety of students and staff.
The directive was communicated through a bulletin from the Kogi State chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), urging statewide compliance with the closure order. The closure is set to begin immediately, with no specified date for resumption.
In a notice signed by PST. Reuben Jimoh, State Chairman of NAPPS, school proprietors were warned against announcing any resumption dates. The notice emphasized: “Do not announce any resumption date as we are uncertain about the situation before Monday. Strict compliance with this directive is required; failure to do so may result in the revocation of your approval.”
The closure order is described as a temporary precautionary measure, with state authorities emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the current security situation. No timeline for reopening schools has been provided, as further assessments are needed before a decision can be made.
Parents and guardians have been urged to wait for official updates on resumption plans, while school administrators are warned that failure to comply with the closure directive may lead to severe penalties, including the revocation of their operational licenses.
The announcement has caused widespread uncertainty, leaving families and educational institutions scrambling to adjust with less than 24 hours’ notice.
