Mr. Hassan Biu Miringa, former Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, has issued a public appeal from captivity, calling on political and community leaders to secure his release. He and another captive have been held by insurgents since their abduction in December 2025.
In a recorded message, Miringa identified the abductors as “soldiers of Khilafa” and stated they have demanded a collective ransom of $300,000 for the release of both captives.“My name is Hassan Biu Miringa, former Chairman of Biu Local Government from 2020 to 2022,” he said. “We were abducted by soldiers of Khilafa about two weeks ago in December 2025 and remain in captivity.
While we are alive by God’s grace, we urgently need help to save our lives.”Miringa indicated that dialogue with the captors is ongoing and some agreement has been reached. He specifically appealed to Borno State Deputy Governor Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur, House of Representatives member Hon. Betera Aliyu, and other community leaders for intervention.
“We are pleading with our leaders to come to our aid. We are their children and we have worked together,” he said.He underscored the urgency of the situation, stating: “A ransom of $150,000 each, totalling $300,000, has been placed on us. We hope our cries are heard so we can be reunited with our families.”
The appeal highlights renewed security concerns in southern Borno, where kidnappings continue to pose a serious threat to local communities.
