The Federal Government has issued a strong warning against fraudulent activities involving the sale of 753 housing units seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and forfeited to the government. This warning comes after claims by a company purporting to be the official auctioneer for these properties.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Saturday, the government clarified that no sale of the houses has commenced. The housing units, which were handed over to the Ministry by the EFCC in May 2025, are yet to be made available for purchase. The ministry also emphasized that it has not authorized any individual or company to act as auctioneers for the sale.
Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, had initially announced plans to sell the houses to the public through a competitive and transparent process in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. However, a recent claim by a company, which has been sending proposals and introduction letters to potential buyers, has sparked confusion.
Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, Badamasi Haiba, further clarified that the public should disregard any offer of Expression of Interest forms for the properties. He assured that the ministry would make a formal announcement about the sale process and strategies, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ministry urged the public to contact its departments of Public Building and Housing Development or Press and Public Relations for any inquiries and advised against engaging with anyone claiming to be selling the houses.
