FCTA ISSUES FRESH ULTIMATUM TO OWNERS OF UNCOMPLETED BUILDINGS AND UNDEVELOPED PLOTS

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given property owners in the Federal Capital City (FCC) a three-month ultimatum to either complete construction on unfinished buildings and develop vacant plots or face the possibility of forfeiting their properties.

The FCTA explained that the move became necessary because of the increasing number of shanties and squatters taking over abandoned and uncompleted buildings, as well as undeveloped plots across the capital city.

A situation, which has led to growing security risks, has prompted the Administration to issue a strict directive to property owners to take immediate action.

This was contained in a document dated October 21, 2024 and signed by the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Obuah, and made available to the media on Monday in Abuja.

It read in part: “The FCT Administration has noted with concern the rapid expansion of shanties and squatters within uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City.

“The Administration has also noted that these buildings and plots are being used as hideouts by men of questionable characters thereby posing a serious security challenge to the residents.

“In view of the foregoing, all owners of those abandoned and uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots are hereby directed to immediately develop and secure the properties within three months from the date of this announcement.

“Failure to comply with this directive, the Administration may take appropriate action which shall include revocation of titles and demolition of such abandoned structures.”

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) recently began the demolition of 50 duplexes and bungalows illegally erected in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja.

The FCTA explained that the structures were illegally erected by land grabbers without approval of appropriate authorities and advised people against buying any property without due diligence to ensure its legality.
