Enugu Government Offers Evidence to Finnish Authorities on Simon Ekpa

The Enugu State Government has offered to provide “evidence of atrocities” allegedly committed by pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa in South-East Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chidiebere Onyia, confirmed that the offer was made in accordance with the requests of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to Finnish authorities.

The SSG praised Finnish authorities for Ekpa’s arrest, noting that Ekpa, who resides in Finland, is regarded by the state government as a “common criminal, con man, and terrorist,” with no genuine concern for the Igbo people.

The statement also described Ekpa as a “murderer and fraudster,” accusing him of benefiting from the suffering of his people. The government emphasized that it is prepared to provide proof of atrocities allegedly sponsored by Ekpa against Ndigbo, which could aid in his prosecution, whether in Finland or Nigeria.

Mr. Onyia expressed satisfaction with the arrest, stating, “His capture and subsequent trial will significantly contribute to enhancing peace, security, and stability across the South-east.”

Ekpa, who has been operating from Finland, is accused of fostering an atmosphere of fear and destruction in the South-east, undermining the region’s economy and culture. The SSG further stated that Ekpa has exploited the people under the guise of fighting for their interests and the restoration of Biafra.
