Multiple criticisms ensued when the Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu state, Eric Odo, issued appointments to two persons, Ezeugwu Ogbonna and Nwodo Ugonna as Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, Yam and Pepper; and Garden Egg respectively.
The nature of the appointments drew attention for its perceived triviality and specificity.
Part of the letter read “It is pertinent to note that this is not a career civil service appointment but a temporary appointment which you hold at the pleasure of the executive chairman of Igbo Etiti LGA.”
Even though the council chairman did not outline the specific duties of the appointees, he dismissed the criticisms, describing his move as a strategic initiative to boost agricultural production.
“In essence, this initiative, wrongly criticized by disgruntled individuals and opposition elements, reflects my commitment to creating a thriving local economy based on Igbo-Etiti’s agricultural potential,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard negative narratives aimed at undermining the efforts, reaffirming his administration’s focus on positioning Igbo-Etiti as a hub for massive food production and economic growth.
