The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has mourned the passing of former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, describing him as a dedicated party stalwart and an unflinching advocate for his constituents and the Niger Delta region
In a statement released on Friday, state APC Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie expressed profound grief over the loss, highlighting Nwaoboshi’s unwavering commitment to politics and public service until his final moments.
Sobotie, through the party’s Publicity Secretary Valentine Onojeghuo, called the death a significant blow to the APC, the Anioma nation, Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was not only a ranking former legislator, but also a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress who believed deeply in participatory politics and selfless service to society. His passing is a huge loss to our party and to Delta State,” the chairman stated.
Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was remembered for his purposeful legislative contributions and persistent advocacy on behalf of oil-producing communities. The APC chairman noted that the late senator consistently pushed for the development of the Niger Delta, addressing critical issues affecting the region’s growth and welfare.
Characterised by courage and firm conviction, Nwaoboshi’s political career was marked by boldness in defending his principles.
“He was a man of strong views and uncommon boldness. Senator Nwaoboshi never shied away from responsibility and brought his experience, voice and conviction to bear in both party and national affairs,” Sobotie added.
The party acknowledged Nwaoboshi’s cross-party influence and lasting impact on governance and democratic discourse in Delta State, underscoring his role as a bridge-builder whose legacy transcends political divides.
On behalf of the APC leadership and members statewide, Sobotie extended heartfelt condolences to Nwaoboshi’s immediate family, the people of Delta North, the Anioma community and party faithful across the country.
“We pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives all who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
Nwaoboshi’s death has elicited tributes from across the political spectrum, reflecting his prominent standing in Nigerian politics. As a key figure from the oil-rich Delta region, his advocacy for equitable resource distribution and regional development leaves an enduring mark on national conversations about fairness and progress in the Niger Delta.
