The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has rejected the bail application filed by the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
The High Court Judge, Justice Maryann Anenih struck out the bail application of Bello on Tuesday morning on the ground that it was filed when the Defendant was yet to be taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The application was filed on November 22 while the former governor was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency on November 26 and arraigned on November 27, 2024.
Justice Maryann said the action was against section 158 of the administration of criminal justice Act 2015 which states that application for bail can be filed after arrest, arraignment or during hearing of a suit.
The judge dismissed the application in its entirety because the application was filed even before the defendant surrendered himself to the Anti-graft agency and his arraignment.
