CORP MEMBERS BECRY NON-IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW MINIMUM WAGE

Corp members of the National Youth Service Corps programme have taken to their social media to complain about the non-implementation of the new minimum wage which was promised to them.

Remember that the Federal Government of Nigeria had approved the new minimum wage after the expiration of the old wage structure in April. The new approval is expected to be extended to corps members, as they are to receive N77,000 allowance.

The wage increment was to alleviate the economic hardship of the fuel subsidy removal.

Corps members have complained that despite the approval they were still receiving the old allowance of N33,000 and they took to their social media handles to share their concerns on Wednesday.

Complaining of the unsustainability of the old allowance due to high transportation, feeding, and NYSC’s other daily expenses, @NoorAjuwon wrote, “3 months later, the Federal Government still believes that N33k is enough for NYSC members to survive.”

@Arbdoolbasid_Jr. asked, “How can we even concentrate on our primary assignment with N33k in this current economic situation?”

Another user, @Eze_na_ujari, stated that he spends N5,000 on transportation and N2,000 on Community Development Service (CDS) contributions, leaving him with N26,000 from the N33,000 allowance…”

The cost of living has affected most Nigerians including civil servants in the country.
