A mining pit in Kadauri village of Maru local government area, Zamfara state, has reportedly collapsed causing the death of local miners with others still missing.
Reports said the incident happened Wednesday night, with many people still trapped under the mining fit.
According to reports from Blueprint, An eye witness identified as Malam Musa Ayuba in a telephone interview stated that at least 10 bodies have been recovered.
He noted that the exact number of those still trapped under the mining pits were yet to be ascertained.
He stated further that many local miners sustained some degree of injuries as a result of the unfortunate incident.
“As I am talking to you now, several people have sustained serious injuries and we are still working hard to get to those who are still trapped under the mining pits,” he said.
He said rescue teams are working to locate and rescue those still trapped.
