CBN RE-INTRODUCES CYBERSECURITY LEVY AT 0.005%

The CBN has made known its intention to re-introduce and enforce the cybersecurity levy it abandoned in May after a public outcry.

The CBN disclosed this in its Monetary, Credit, Foreign Trade and Exchange Policy Guidelines for fiscal years 2024 – 2025 document released on Tuesday.

According to the new guidelines, the apex bank reduced the percentage from 0.5% to 0.005%.

Commercial banks and other financial institutions operating in the country are expected to deduct the levy from all electronic transactions by customers.

The CBN is yet to announce a date for the re-commencement of the charges.
