BREAKING: TINUBU SIGNS BILL FOR CREATION OF NORTH-CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the bill for the creation of the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC).

This was disclosed by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday during plenary.

The bill for the creation of the North-Central Development Commission was sponsored by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, PDP, Benue South and co- sponsored by Senator Sani Musa, APC, Niger East.

It scaled its second reading in February 2024.

The creation of the commission, according to its sponsors, is to receive and manage funds from the federal government and donors for the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of:
roads, houses and business premises of victims of flood and farmers/herders clashes, communal clashes,
construction of large format drainage systems,
dredging of rivers Niger and Benue to control flood and incidental matters, as well as
tackling the menace of poverty, illiteracy and other related environmental or developmental challenges facing North Central Nigeria.

The North Central Zone comprises the following geopolitical States of the Federation; Kogi, Niger, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
